 In the time of his coming, the blessed Mahdi will be instrumental in the extraction of all underground riches such as oil, gold and silver and in their being used for the comfort and well-being of all humanity. Our Prophet (saas) describes this feature of the Mahdi as follows in the hadith:

According to Hudhaifa, the Messenger of Allah (saas) said:
... In his (the Mahdi's) time all waters will become fresh, rivers will grow longer, THE EARTH will increase its plants and BRING FORTH THE TREASURES (within it).

Hazrat Imam Baqr (as) states: “When our Qaim [Hazrat Mahdi (as)] appears, ALL THE EARTH’S MINERALS AND TREASURES WILL PASS INTO HIS HANDS.”

IN HIS [HAZRAT MAHDI’S (AS)] TIME UNDERGROUND TREASURES, RICHES AND OTHER MINES WILL BE BROUGHT FORTH.

ALL THE TREASURE OF THE WORLD WILL BE GATHERED ALONGSIDE THE MAHDI (AS); (all underground and surface riches) Hazrat Mahdi (as) will then distribute goods to people and say, “Come and take them”...
He will then DISTRIBUTE GOODS TO EVERYONE IN A MANNER NEVER SEEN BEFORE. (Ilal ash-Shara'i Sheikh Saduq). (Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 51, p. 29)
